The Antique Tractor Show

There is an annual event at the Liberty Grove Historical Society in Ellison Bay that I vend at. I have a booth for The Longest Day, the fundraising branch of the Alzheimer’s Association. The was the weekend for the event and I was there all weekend.

My booth for The Longest Day

Normally, I sew up a storm all year to have enough stuff to sell at this event, but with flying to Oregon this winter to be with my dad after he was put on hospice, I didn’t get enough sewing done. However, last year an artist friend of mine named Marcy Farber closed her shop for good. She has health issues and it was getting to be too hard for her. I asked her what she was going to do with all the stuff that hadn’t sold and she said she would probably donate it to one of our local thrift stores. I asked if she would consider letting me sell it as part of my fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association and she said she would, so I’ve been storing it for nearly a year. It’s a good thing I had her stuff because otherwise, I wouldn’t have had enough to have a booth this year.

A closer look

The things hanging in the back of the booth are things I made. Marcy made the painted clothing on the left and everything on the table. Laurie at the Noble House gave me the quilt on the left and asked if I could try to sell it for the Noble House. You can see in the pictures how windy it was. It’s always windy on the top of the hill overlooking the bay of Ellison Bay, but it was difficult to keep everything up in my booth with the wind blowing so hard. I had hoped to be somewhat sheltered in my location right next to the barn, but not so. The wind felt good because the weather was otherwise very warm and muggy.

This woman was trying on one of Marcy’s painted shirts and wanted to see what it looked like on her, so I took this picture. She liked it and bought it.

Most of what sold yesterday was Marcy’s things, but today my things finally caught people’s interest. I made about $500 for the Alzheimer’s Association during the 2-day fair. I had sold something earlier in the year so, all told, I have raised about $600 this year. My goal was $1000. *Heavy sigh*

Right next to my tent was the Door County North tent. On the left side of the picture is the raffle tent, a fundraiser for the Liberty Grove Historical Society. The other tents pictured are food tents, and beyond them, if you look hard, you can almost see the antique tractors. They had a contest for people to vote for their favorite tractor!

When I took the above picture, the other vendors were closing up shop or I would have taken a picture in the other direction as well. Mark came to help me take down my tent this afternoon and pack up everything that didn’t sell. I don’t know if I’m still trying to get my energy back after having Covid or if the wind took everything out of me, but as Mark was putting the last of the things away, I had to sit. I was thoroughly exhausted and could barely put one foot in front of the other. When we got home, Mark made us some root beer floats and that helped to revive me some. Tomorrow, it’s back to work. I’ll be working at Door County North. I hope it will be a quiet day!
