I’m OK!

Boy, do I have a story to tell!

Boy, do I have a story to tell!

This morning Mark and I got our work orders and one of the bath houses we don’t usually work in was on our list.  I was cleaning in the women’s restroom and I came across a shower that had some really bad mildew and mineral deposits in it.  I tried to get it off with Comet with bleach, but it didn’t seem to be having an effect.  That’s when I remembered that I had a cleaner in our cart for mineral deposits in toilets.  I thought I’d give it a try.

I pretty well doused the shower and then I got down on my hands and knees to wipe it up.  I guess I inhaled because all of the sudden my eyes started to sting and I felt a burning sensation going down my esophagus.  I was still on my hands and knees scrubbing when Mark came in to check on me about fifteen seconds later.  I told him I’d inhaled the fumes and he sent me outside to get some fresh air.  The burning sensation persisted.  Mark put me in the cart and headed back to the housekeeping office, and at the same time he radioed to have our assistant manager, Letty, meet us there.  When she got there, I had my head on the table and I was feeling a little limp.

When Letty heard what happened she ran to the main office, I think to ask what to do, and they gave her a Worker’s Comp form for me to take to an urgent care clinic they use.  She gave that to Mark and they loaded me into the truck, which he’d gone home to get.

When we got to urgent care Mark barely had time to tell them I’d inhaled a corrosive before they were wheeling me into a room.  While the nurse was trying to get my vitals, the doctor came right in and told her to put me on two liters of oxygen.  Within a few minutes of being on the oxygen, I started feeling better.

I was there on oxygen for probably an hour or so, and then the doctor came back to explain to us what would happen from here.  He said I can’t use any chemicals for the next few days and he prescribed cough medicine.  He said my lungs will slowly try to clean that stuff out by making me cough.  Then he wants to see me again on Monday.

After sitting in an air conditioned room with cold oxygen going in my nose, I got chilled.

I tried going back to work when we came home, but I found my throat started hurting again.  Mark took me back home and told me to rest up.  It’s probably going to bother me for a few days, but I’m perfectly fine.

I believe God sent Mark in to check on me as soon after it happened as possible so that he could get me out of there.  It’s nice to know Someone is taking care of me since I don’t always take the best care of myself.  I’m grateful to Mark, as well, for all that he did for me today.  I’m one lucky woman!
