Traveling to Oregon

This last week has been full of having contractors in to look at fixing up our house, trying to get a little more settled into our home, and meeting the neighbors. We had our first company over on Tuesday evening, the couple that helped me when I hurt my ankle last spring. Yesterday, Mark went to his first BACA meeting in Price. He got to meet his new BACA brothers and sisters and go on a Level 1, a meet and greet for a hero (child survivor of abuse), and one of the heroes asked to ride with him on his bike. He had a fun time! And then we left our new home to come up to Oregon. Tonight, we are in Baker City, OR, on our way to see our mothers.

Mark took this picture from our yard!

Some of the things we saw yesterday:

That rock up there looks awfully precarious!

I had made reservations at the Royal Inn hotel before we left home, and when I went in to register, there was an old German Shepherd behind the desk with the woman who was working with me. She obviously loved the dog, but when I mentioned that we had our German Shepherd with us, she was not very friendly to me. She charged us a $25 pet fee, but said we couldn’t leave Tucson unattended in the room. She also charged a refundable $100 fee in case we left the room a mess. We didn’t leave it any worse than it already was. We couldn’t close the bathroom door because it was hanging on its hinges. There was still garbage from the last person there, and there was dirt in the bathroom. I don’t recommend it.

This is the Royal Inn in Midvale, UT, just south of Salt Lake City. It’s anything but royal.

The reason we stayed there was that it was less expensive than any place I could find in Salt Lake City, which is where we planned to go to celebrate Mark’s sister’s birthday with her family and friends.

We were exhausted when we got back to the hotel and went to bed at 10:00. This morning, we woke up before the sun did and decided to leave early. Here are some pictures from today:

Into Idaho…

Mark and I are currently at a Quality Inn (in a beautiful room!) in Baker City, OR, on our way to Mom’s house. She will be turning 96 this week. This is the first year in many that I’ve been close enough to come up and be with Mom for her birthday, and I’m looking forward to it! We also want to visit Mark’s mom, who has been undergoing treatment for liver cancer. My dad’s bedroom furniture set is in storage near Mom’s house, so we’re going to pick that up for our new guest bedroom. I’d like to include a visit with my friend, Wendy, if she’s available.

Our room for tonight. I highly recommend the Quality Inn in Baker City, OR!
