We started the day out with heavy rain in Twin Falls, and we’re ending the day in a heavy windstorm in Rock Springs, WY. Oy vey!
Wet!Welcome to Utah, although we couldn’t see the sign through all the rain!Starting to get a longer viewThe rain slowed downDry, but threatening…The mountains look like a rumpled blanket! We stopped at a Mexican restaurant called Bella’s Fresh Mexican Grill in Ogden and had lunch with Mark’s sister, Sharon. They got caught up on all the family news, and I showed her my pictures of the house we’re looking at in Price. Mark was good about trying to include me in the conversation. I truly appreciated that!Taken from the same locationCan you imagine waking up to this view every morning?I will say this for Utah: it’s got some spectacular mountains!Another cloud-capped mountain and more rainDown in the green, green valleyThe tilt on these rocks always reminds me of when I was younger and Dad was explaining to me that rocks at an angle like this were pushed up by plate tectonics. That’s where non-volcanic mountains come from.We started seeing some interesting rock formations, too. The river here is the Green River. This is the first tunnel we’ve gone through in a long time!More interesting rock formations. Does anyone know if those were formed by lava going up a tube?I think we’re somewhere near Flaming Gorge. It’s pretty, but we have to get off the highway because it’s closed further up to RVs and trucks with broad sides. We’re in a windstorm. We’ve got a campsite in the KOA in Rock Springs. Mark and Tucson look like a boy and his puppy in this chair!
When we first arrived, the winds were 30 mph. All evening, we’ve been listening to the wind blowing around us. The weather report says that wind speeds are now between 22 and 30 mph, but it sounds and feels like more than that. It feels like we’re on a train! We’ve had it happen before where windstorms have lasted a couple of days, and so far, that’s what the weather report is saying about tomorrow. If the highway is still closed to broad-sided vehicles tomorrow, we may have to stay here for an extra day. This has been a very expensive trip!
