Many Windows On the World

My husband, Mark, is a long haul trucker.  He has been in nearly all the lower 48 states with the exception of a few in the NE corner of the country.  He’s seen all sorts of beautiful sights and had many adventures.  Wherever he goes he takes a camera, and he’s always ready to shoot something spectacular or interesting.  He took the picture I’m using for my heading.  I like to think of it as “Many Windows On the World”.

That’s what I think of the stories I read as well.  Each one gives a different view of the world.  As a freelancer, I’ve read a couple of Christian romances, a book of spiritual meditations, part of a YA book set in China, part of a book about gangsters, a memoir for caregivers, and part of a futuristic mystery.

The really interesting thing I’ve learned about myself so far is that I seem to be incapable of being completely aloof and business-like about the books I edit.  I am always making connections, and I often tell writers, “Yeah, I’ve experienced something similar,” or “That reminds me of…”  I don’t know if this is a good trait or not, but every book I read gives me a different insight into the world around me and my relationship to it.
