Adjustment

Yesterday, Mark went to the VA first thing in the morning to get his free hearing aids for tinnitus. Then he took me up to Hearing & Brain Centers of America in Paradise Valley to have mine adjusted. I have a new doctor who will be working with me now and he took my hearing aids to the second level. Wow!

You haven’t heard anything until you’ve heard what it sounds like to your scalp when you brush your hair! In the background, I hear something like the sound TVs used to make when they went to static. Mark says that should go away in a few days, but for right now, I hear everything! My voice comes back to me crisp and clear. I hear Mark better, too.

Mark and I went to the laundromat to do our laundry today. We sat at a table near the machines, and the sound they were making was sending piercing shrieks through my ears. We had to move to another table farther from the machines, but everything was still quite noisy. It was a relief to get back out to the car where it was relatively quiet. This, too, shall pass as my ears adjust to being able to hear more clearly. I’m not noticing any tinnitus at the moment. This is good!

The hearing aids Mark got from the VA are fancier than mine. If he has tinnitus, his hearing aids play the sound of ocean waves to give him something else to focus on.

I’m supposed to go back on February 13th for my third adjustment. If I’m hearing this well now, I almost think I’ll be able to hear people’s thoughts with one or two more adjustments!
