Today, Mark and I decided to look at the closest towns to Price. I wanted to go south to Castle Dale first because that would be the closest quilt shop to me. It’s about a half-hour drive from here.
On the way down to Castle DaleCreative Floral & Fabrics is 2 stores, one for floral designs and the other for fabrics. I bought a John Wayne panel for Mark!Castle Dale is a cute town at the base of a big mountain.
After looking around Castle Dale for a while, we headed home for lunch. Then we decided to check out a few towns north of us.
We stopped to read up on the history of the area. Price and some of these other towns are in Carbon County. The reason it’s called Carbon County is that this used to be a big coal mining area. This plaque shows a coal miner with his family and other people around. There was an explosion in one of the mines that killed 2 miners and injured a bunch more, so they closed off that tunnel. They do have some evergreen trees in the mountains! This formation is called Castle Gate. It looks like a castle gate with parapets at the top.We went 12 miles beyond where we had intended to stop because what looked like towns on our map either weren’t towns or weren’t ones we could see from the road. We didn’t realize we had gone so far past!On our way back, our GPS directed us here to the town we were seeking, and this broken stone wall at the base of a mountain was all we saw. This was interesting, where they cut through the rock instead of going over or around it.The only real town north of Price is Helper. It was a cute town. One thing I’ve noticed around here is that if a town has what looks like a movie theater, it has been turned into something else. Where do these people go to see the theatrical releases of The Chosen? Finally, Mark decided to explore Wellington, which is east of Price. Wellington is where he would go to church if we get the house. Wellington has 2 of his churches within a few blocks of each other, but I haven’t been able to find my kind of church yet. Anyway, we went on some back roads and discovered this huge solar panel farm. This picture was taken from the top of a hill so that you can see how far this farm extends!
Price is abysmal, but the towns around it are much nicer. The only good thing we’ve seen about Price is Supreme Auto. They contacted us today to ask how the car is driving. I can’t get over how much they care. It’s not normal!
