Happy Father’s Day!

I tried to call my father this afternoon to wish him a Happy Father’s Day but ended up having to leave a message on his answering machine.  Even better than that, Jamey left a Happy Father’s Day message on our answering machine for Mark.  I hope Dad gets as much pleasure from my message as Mark got from Jamey’s! Hannibal, MO

I haven’t written for several days because we’ve been working on an inspection of our RV, but this afternoon we took some time off to drive into Hannibal, Missouri from our campground in Monroe City.  There is so much more we would have liked to see, such as the home of the “Unsinkable Molly Brown”, but we only had an hour to look around after having lunch at the Mark Twain Dinette, famous for their Mark Twain fried chicken and homemade root beer.  We went to the historic area where Mark Twain’s home and those of his friends are located. A Dickens Christmas

It was Christmas Eve and Bob Cratchett sat huddled over a candle flame trying to warm his hands.  Scrooge heard his lack of work, counting money and writing figures, and told him to get back to work.  Bob said, “Please, Sir, may I take off a little early tonight?  It is Christmas Eve, after all.” Continue reading

First day of school

This morning I went with Mark to the first session of his class.  When I said the Workamper.com RV and Workamper News car belonged to Terry Cooper, I was wrong.  They belong to the president of Workamper.com, Steve Anderson.  Terry Cooper and his wife, whom everyone calls Lady E, are in a fifth wheel right next to Steve and his wife. From Bartlesville, OK

Last night we slept with the windows open all night, and this morning we kept hearing an occasional Thwok! sound.  We figured out it was a bird trying to get in our window, but we couldn’t actually see him till we sat down for breakfast.  He came right up and sat on our window ledge for probably half a minute or so, having a good look at us as though we were animals in the zoo.  We said hello to him and he flew into the tree next to our window. From Newton Hills State Park, SD

In case you’ve been following our journey in your road atlas, here’s the route we took today:  We drove east from Jamestown, ND to Fargo, ND.  Then we turned due south and made a stop at Home Depot in Sioux Falls, SD.  From there we continued south for a few more miles and took the exit east to Canton, which on my map appears to be right on the border with Iowa.  Then we turned south a little way further to Newton Hills State Park.  Technically I suppose I could have put Canton, SD in the subject heading, but we’re actually not that close to Canton.  So now that you know where we are, here is today’s story: Continue reading

From Jamestown, ND

This morning we stopped in at Bob’s Body Shop on our way out of Glendive to have him remove the tape that was holding our windshield in place while the glue dried.  He told Mark to turn on the defrost and warm the windshield up to make sure the glue was set.  From Glendive to the border of North Dakota is about fifty miles.  We didn’t even make it out of Montana before a rock hit the new windshield and chipped it.  I really dislike Montana! Guest blog by John Greaves III

I knew this would be a busy day, so I asked my most recent published author to write about his experience.  John first had me edit a full length book about his characters, Zac and Mya, but then he sent me a short story aimed at introducing his characters ahead of the book.  He has just gotten his short story, Pit Stop, published.  I’m turning it over to John Greaves III from here: Continue reading

From Silver Falls State Park in Oregon

There’s not a lot to write about today except that all prayers for our safety as we crossed the mountains were answered.  The funniest thing that happened was when we stopped for gas the first time in Oregon and I was looking to see how much the sales tax was on the receipt.  I had to remind myself that there is no sales tax here and we don’t have to pump our own gas either! Continue reading
