Time with my son

I was too tired to write last night after I finished processing all the pictures I took during the day, so I’m catching you up now.

Jamey and Sarah came to pick me up around 9:00 in the morning and I took them first to Seaquist to show them where I work.  Before we went in, we explored parts of the grounds I haven’t particularly looked at yet.

We decided to try the rope maze. It wasn't as easy as one would think.

Sarah was the one that finally figured it out.

This playground set was just installed on Tuesday. Jamey decided to test out the slide.

Then we went inside the store where Jamey and Sarah enjoyed sampling foods and bought several things to take home with them.  Jamey bought three pieces of fudge, which may or may not make it home with him!

I had some quick business to take care of in Sturgeon Bay, and while we were there, Sarah got an urgent business call.  She was going to have to spend the afternoon working.  We had lunch in Sturgeon Bay and took her back up to Rowley’s Bay to work.  From there, Jamey and I went to Bailey’s Harbor to see some more sights.

There are two walls on the lighthouse.  There’s the wall that encases the stairway, some space, and an outer wall.  The outer wall was made of some kind of brick or stone that didn’t hold up well under the elements, so within two years of the lighthouse being built, they had to encase the outer wall with metal plates.

Jamey and I climbed to the top of the lighthouse.

This lighthouse uses a Fresnel lens and an itty-bitty lightbulb and can be seen from eighteen miles away. It's fully automated now.

We also looked through the keeper's house.

They are trying to raise money to refurbish the keeper’s house to make it look more like it did when the keepers and their families lived here.

Had Sarah been with us, I had next intended to take them to The Ridges Sanctuary, but Jamey just kind of wanted to drive around.  He asked if Door County has any game stores.  I told him that Seaquist has a few board games, but that wasn’t what he had in mind.  Door County doesn’t have the kinds of things a geeky city boy might be interested in apparently.

We did a little wandering and then we picked Mark up and went to dinner.

We took Jamey to Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant in Sister Bay. After dinner, he bought a meat and cheese platter to take back to Sarah.

This morning I went back to work.  Jamey had sounded a little iffy as to whether they would have time to stop by one last time on their way out of town, but about mid-morning, they came in to Seaquist.  Sarah had managed to finish her project and they were heading back to Madison, WI for one more night before catching their plane home.  I gave them both a big hug and told them I love them.  I feel a little let down now that they are gone, but as Jamey reminded me, I’ll be back in Oregon in November and December and I will see them then.  Their time here was too short for me to show them everything I’d like to show them, so I am already trying to convince them to come back again next year!
