From Strasburg, CO: Part II

This morning we appeared to have gotten up early but it felt like it should be two hours later.  That was good because it gave us the opportunity to get up and get some stuff done.  After showers and breakfast, Mark and I got into our car and drove to Aurora to take care of some things.

First on the agenda was to get me into an urgent care clinic.  It’s nothing serious, but one of the toes I thought felt infected a week ago still hurts.  I was beginning to think it was an ingrown toenail and I wanted to get it taken care of before we start working on our feet all day at Amazon.  Turns out it’s not an ingrown toenail, but the doctor prescribed a mild antibiotic that she said I only need to take for a few days.  She said I should also soak my foot in Epsom salts, which I’m doing as I write this.

We got the prescription filled at a Safeway in the same shopping center, and Safeway gives free flu vaccinations to people on Tricare, so I got my flu shot.  The pharmacist wanted me to hang around for a few minutes to see if I had a reaction to it, so we ate at the little café in the Safeway.  I was fine.

Next we sought out a movie theater.  My BFF, Wendy, had said she wished we could watch Captain Phillips together and she told me she was going to see it with some friends today, so I wanted to watch it so we could be watching it “together”.  Mark was interested in the subject matter, so I got no objections from him.  The movie is based on the true story of a ship’s captain whose ship was hijacked by Somali pirates, and when they didn’t get what they wanted, they took him as a hostage in a life boat.  The navy came to rescue him, but it was a very delicate situation.  It was a highly intense movie and when it was over I gave Mark some quiet time before I tried to talk with him about it.

In the meantime, we went to check out where the Les Schwab is that we’re going to get our tires changed at in the morning, and then we stopped at Walmart to get a hose for the RV.

Finally on the way back to Strasburg, I asked Mark what he got out of the movie.  He insisted that it was all about good vs. evil, and that good won.  I could see that, but I actually got even deeper into the meaning of the movie.  To me it was about what matters to you most in the minute before you think you’re going to die.  After all was said and done, it wasn’t his job or his crew or even his own life that mattered to him.  His thoughts were of his wife and children.  To me, it was about where our priorities lie.  If you’ve seen the movie, tell me what you think it’s about.
